Carlissa

Carlissa has spent years holding this family together. She works two jobs, and her son Edwin rides a scooter to work every day because he can't afford a car. Their roof has been leaking straight through the ceilings, and neither of them ever asked anybody for help.

We were just knocking on doors that day, offering to fix people's houses for free. Everybody said no. Then Edwin opened his door, gave us one minute because he had to get to work, and what we saw inside changed our whole week.

So while he was at work, we surprised his mom and got started. The yard, the ceilings, the roof. All of it, free. We were even planning to buy Edwin a car. Then on day two he pulled up in one he'd bought himself, and what we did next is the part I'll never forget.

VO (Cole): "This family had no idea any of this was coming."

[Hard cut to knocking doors. A no. Another no. Door closing on them.]

VO: "Because two days ago, we were knocking on doors, asking people if we could do their yard . And getting told no, over and over.”

[Edwin opens the door. He's already halfway out of it, on his way somewhere.]

VO: "Then Edward answered, and when we saw his house, we were shocked”

[Inside. Push in on the ceilings, the water damage.]

VO: "He introduced us to his mom Carlissa, who was working 2 jobs to just to make ends meet for the family.”
